Paul's recent directing engagement was with Boston Baroque for their semi-staged production of Handel’sAmadigi di Gaula. For the same company he directed Handel's opera Xerxes with male soprano Michael Maniaci at the beautiful Jordan Hall. In 2008 he directed the U.S. premiere of Shadowboxing by James Gaddas, and Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera at the Alexander Kasser Theater, New Jersey. Please see the PRESS page for reviews.

Before pursuing stage-directing Paul trained in the Japanese art of Kenbu (Sword Dance) under Maeda Asano Sensei of Ryushin Ryu, based in Nagoya, Japan. He was one of the first foreigners to publicly perform Kenbu in Japan, winning awards in Tokyo and Nagoya. From his success in Japan he continued his acting training at the Centre for the Performing Arts in Adelaide, Australia. Paul’s directing debut was Steven Berkoff’s Acapulco at the Centre for the Performing Arts. His Australian directing credits are: David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross, Shakespeare’s King Lear, and Peter Weiss’ Marat/Sade.

In 2001 Paul was accepted into the rigorous MFA Theatre Directing Program at Columbia University in New York City (Alum'04). Since graduating he has directed productions in Berlin and New York City. Please see RESUME page for list of productions.

During the past four years, Paul has been assistant director in the opera field with acclaimed directors: Christopher Alden, Basil Twist, Jim Robinson, Thaddeus Strassberger, and Amon Miyamoto. He has worked at prestigious opera houses such as New York City Opera, Dallas Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Spoleto Festival U.S.A. and the Bard Summerscape Festival.
